Composition:

INOSINE: 25 mg
Benzyl alcohol: 15 mg
Sodium sulphite anhydrous: 0.20 mg

TONARSYL Properties:
Inosine is a purine nucleotide that participates in the metabolism of DNA and RNA nucleic acids. It easily enters the cell or it releases ATP. This endogenous energy is used by the myocardial cell for its contraction.
Inosine is characterized by a marked inotropic action (improvement of contractility) and causes a slight increase in frequency (chronotropic effect) without modification or excitability or cardiac conduction.
The changes generated in the heart are both qualitative and quantitative:
– increase in cardiac output without direct tension effect,
– increased oxygen extraction by the myocardium and enrichment of the coronary venous blood with oxygen, this showing an improvement of the myocardial irrigation.
Inosine also has a respiratory analgesic effect.

Indications:
In horses, calves and dogs: heart failure.

TONARSYL Administration and dosage:
IM (calves, dogs), IV (horses, calves, dogs) or SC (dogs).
Horses, calves, dogs : 0.1 to 0.2 ml per kg body weight, 1 time per day (= 2.5 to 5 mg inosine / kg / day), corresponding to a recommended dose of:
– Horses : 50 ml IV strict, once a day for 5 to 10 days.
– Calves : 10 ml IM or IV, once a day for 5 days.
– Dogs : 1 ml per 5 kg per day by IV, IM or SC, for 5 to 20 days.
Doses and duration of treatment may be increased depending on the clinical condition of the animal and the response to treatment.
